The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) in Brisbane has made significant strides in celebrating Pacific women artists. The exhibition sis: Pacific Art 1980–2023 was a groundbreaking survey that featured 162 works by 30 artists. The exhibition highlighted artists from Hawai’i, Bougainville, Tonga, Vanuatu, the Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji, showcasing their deep sense of attachment to their land, community, and culture. This exhibition was particularly significant due to the Oceania Women’s Fund, a bequest that supports the ongoing development of women artists’ practices in the Pacific.
