Horvatić’s literary career was highly prolific. He served as the editor of several influential children's magazines and later held high positions in Matica Hrvatska , a central Croatian cultural institution. For three years, he was the editor of the cultural weekly Hrvatsko slovo . His personal life was marked by tragedy; his father was a domobran (Home Guard) officer, a fact that led to his work being suppressed and even banned for over twenty years after the war. Despite these challenges, he was a member and secretary of the Croatian Writers' Society. Over his lifetime, he authored more than 50 books, with his works translated into 25 languages. His notable works include Stanari u slonu and Junačina Mijat Tomić . For his contributions, he was the recipient of prestigious awards such as the Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić Award, the Miroslav Krleža Award, and the Tin Ujević Award.
